‘All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.’

(2 Timothy 3)

It’s so easy to slip into a routine of reading the Bible, and lose sight of the power and value of scripture, but these words serve to remind us of the spectacular importance of reading the Bible.

And yet as we look at the attitudes of students today, the words of Paul in this letter take on a fresh perspective, when we know that one in three students with no christian faith would be interested in reading the Bible. Every month, we’re hearing more and more stories of students encountering Jesus through scripture; it’s this shift in student culture that has led us to decide to gift 1500 Bibles to curious students, through studentbible.org.

Immy is one of those students, who heard about these Bibles, and signed up to get one.

“Growing up…We used to go to a Church of Ireland Church, but religion wasn't a big part of our lives… and eventually we stopped going to Church.“

"When I went to uni, I got more curious," she told me ‘I thought, ‘let’s start going to Church…

I wanted to understand it for myself… so I started going to St George’s, but I didn’t have a Bible.”

Immy recounted how one of the Fusion team spoke at her Church, where they invited the students to gift their friends a Bible through studentbible.org, and she thought “I don’t have a Bible, but I kinda need one.”

“That’s when things started to change for me, and I started to actually explore faith and read [the Bible]. I’ve been reading it a lot, and I’ve been really interested in it. I’ve found myself talking about it a lot with my friends, and some of my friends started to read the Bible and go to Church now too.“

“That’s what made my faith feel real; seeing God work in the lives of those around me. That’s what led me to getting baptised… Even in the [6 months I’ve been at uni], God has been at work in so many different ways, both in my life and in the lives of my friends.

Immy’s story is just one of 1422 students who have received a Bible from Fusion - would you pray for the other 1421 students, that they might pick up their Bibles, and read the words that God has breathed, so that they too may be trained in righteousness.

Every week of the academic year, we are sharing a story of student mission. If you have a story to share, let us know.
