“Can You Bring a Verse Every Week?” - God at Work on the Lacrosse Pitch
Some mission moments are planned weeks in advance, others spring up unexpectedly.
Darcy became a Christian a year ago after being invited to a bible study in his hall of residence. Recently, before his lacrosse match, he found himself with a few minutes spare in the changing room. So he did something simple and sincere: He pulled out his Bible and started reading.
A couple of teammates noticed.
They wandered over.
“What are you reading?”
Nothing dramatic.
No microphone.
No spotlight.
Just curiosity, courage, and conversation. Darcy was able to share that he regularly reads the bible and loves it.
Halftime Faith
As captain, Darcy leads the team talk at halftime. But this time, he sensed something new stirring - so he shared a verse:
1 Corinthians 9:24
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?
Run in such a way as to get the prize.”
The team loved it.
Then they went out and won.
But the real win happened afterwards.
“Can you do that every week?”
After the match, a few of the lads came up to him - not to congratulate him, but to ask for more.
Could he share a verse at halftime every week?
Could he pray for the team before each match?
A simple moment of faithfulness became a doorway.
A quiet Bible reading became an invitation.
A new Christian became a witness.
Student mission is not always up front. Student mission does not always need to be meticulously organised. Sometimes student mission looks like:
• courage in a changing room
• opening your Bible where others can see
• answering honest questions
• sharing Scripture humbly and naturally
• trusting God with the outcome
God is moving on UK campuses in ordinary spaces - kitchens, libraries, lecture halls, and yes, even changing rooms.
Because when students live out their faith authentically, others notice, and God uses it.
