At the end of May, we ran our final weekend of mission. It’s been an amazing year going to six cities to spend a significant amount of time engaging with evangelism.

The vision has been an answer to a simple question: what would it look like to spend 2 days on campus doing mission in different cities this year, in partnership with the local church?

We have spent time in Bristol, Manchester, Lincoln, Glasgow, Newcastle and London with students who have travelled in from all over the country to do mission.

Our strategy has been very simple and we’ve mainly focused on using the Fusion worldview survey to open up conversations about faith and spirituality.

We continue to be surprised at how many students say that they would go to church if a friend invited them and that they would be interested in reading the Bible if they were gifted one for free.

The spiritual openness is clear to see. There are so many who want to be invited to know more about Jesus and these weekends have been a simple way of inviting local churches onto campus to meet students. One key area of focus for us is helping the church respond to this openness.

In Newcastle, I was doing the survey with a student and asked if he would go to church if a friend invited him. He laughed, said yes and looked at his friend. I couldn’t tell exactly what was going on so I asked if his friend was a Christian and they both said yes. So, I then asked if his Christian friend had already invited him to church to which he said no. We all knew what needed to happen next. The Christian friend proceeded to invite his friend to church and he said yes.

It’s not always that easy, but sometimes it is.

God is moving among the young people of this nation and now is the time for the church to respond.

We’d love to connect with you and explore how Fusion could support your local church in reaching the students in your city.

Every week of the academic year, we are sharing a story of student mission. If you have a story to share, let us know.
